Pray for the Persecuted

“Please pray that I can stand well.  I am not afraid of death.”  These were the words Shoaib Assabdullah said after being imprisoned for passing out a Bible to a man in the fourth largest city in Afghanistan.   A judge told Shoaib on January 3 that if he renounced Christ he could be free, otherwise he would face up to 20 years of prison or even be sentenced to death.  What were you doing on January 3rd?  Were you spending time with family during the holidays?  Were you complaining about having to go to work again?  Well, this man was imprisoned on January 3rd for being a believer of Jesus Christ.

It is so easy to get caught up in our own world, and forget the persecution other Christians face daily.  However, the world is shrinking with the internet, mobile phones, fast travel, skype, etc.  Today, you have the opportunity, with a few clicks to hear stories of persecuted Christians who need your prayers.  The Voice of the Martyrs “is a non-profit, inter-denominational Christian organization dedicated to assisting the persecuted church worldwide.”  Stop by this website http://www.persecution.com/ to see a map of the countries where it is illegal to be a Christian.  It also has powerful stories of courageous Christians, lists people/countries to pray for, and gives the opportunity to donate Bibles to restricted nations.

Tom White has been working with VOM (Voice of the Martyrs) for 35 years now.  He recently sent out a letter telling the truths he is more and more conscious of with time.  I think this is worth reading and internalizing.

1.       Christians never lose.  We live eternally (John 3:16)

2.       The greatest favor we can do for our enemies is to introduce them to Jesus (whether they accept Him or not)

3.       By placing us in a nation of religious freedom, God has given us the opportunity to exchange strength with those courageous ones who live under oppression.

4.       The brief burst of time that we live on earth is simply preparation for further fellowship with all nations in heaven. (Each day is a gift!)
