Bake Sale Fundraiser Tips

1. Location, location, location – not only important in real estate, but also in relation to where you set up your bake sale!  Find a high traffic area.  Cris & I chose our college’s cafeteria because of the high traffic and hunger factor.

2. Selection – Keep the Classics – Cakes, Cookies, Brownies.  Limit your variety to about 4-7 different items like: cupcakes, cakes, pastries, brownies, etc.  Don’t forget to include specialties for those with allergies or special diets: nut-free & gluten-free.  Make sure your treats don’t need refrigoration if they will be sitting on the table for a long period of time.  Have volunteers bake treats to help save time & money.  Make sure to let them know the drop off times and location in advance.

3. Pricing – this will depend heavily on the size of the item.  Adding some creative details or wrapping the treats & adding a ribbon can help justify a higher price.  Set out a donation jar with the reason for raising money in a prominent location.

4. Advertising – Make flyers to give out to family, friends & co-workers.  Put up signs in local shops, schools, community centers & libraries.  Let the world of facebook & twitter know.  Email local friends & family.  Don’t forget to include all of the correct details:

What, When, Where, Why

5. Last minute…  Don’t forget to have tables, table clothes, baskets, trays, decorations, a donation jar, a cashier’s box with change, price lists, chairs for people selling, and people to sell the baked goods!!  Add brightly colored napkins and festive tableclothes to add a special touch to your bake sale.  Have fun rasing money for a good cause and spending quality time with family, friends and new friends!  Food certainly brings people together.

6. If you have any leftovers, give them away to people in need!
